Material Requirements Planning (MRP)

Planning is where resources are allocated to satisfy customer demand or to build products to a specified schedule (as in build for stock organisations).
Highpoint MRP identifies both Purchasing and Manufacturing activity and has to respond to hour-by-hour, day-by-day events together with future planned activity, thus reducing the problems of over stocking unnecessary inventory.
Material Resource Planning at multiple levels is a useful technique for planning and generating several distinct but interrelated items of information:
- A Purchasing Plan for factored/purchased Raw Materials/Components
- A Manufacturing Plan for manufactured Intermediates/Assemblies and Finished Goods
- As an input to a Rough Cut Capacity Plan
- As an Overlay for Available To Promise enquiries
The allocation of a provisional Vendor enables Vendor Purchase Schedules to be printed and the Portal Vendor enquiries to show planned activity.
Material Resource Planning is used to control finished goods, Intermediate and Manufacture to order products.
Using inputs from other Highpoint Modules it calculates gross requirements and available to promise figures, resulting in Planned Requirements and associated actions.
Material Resource Planning (MRP) is the module that generates gross requirements as determined by the Master Production Schedule, performs 'net' logic and generates planned Purchase Orders and Work Orders that are necessary in order to satisfy the Master Production Schedule.
The primary goal is to Answer the questions:
- How?
- When, with respect to Materials Ordering?
- How much?
- From whom?
An integral component of Highpoint Enterprise, MRP integrates with Inventory Management and Warehousing, MPSP and CRP, Sales and Purchasing, Product Definition and Quality Management modules.
